True Empowerment

(Last Updated On: April 5, 2018)

How do you define empowerment? For me, it’s about feeling strong, but also kind and compassionate. It’s about knowing I can handle whatever comes and that I have great support (physical and spiritual) around me.

In order to feel strong and in control, I used to lean on anger. Let’s face it, anger is a powerful emotion. Especially when you feel righteous about being angry. If someone has slighted you or hurt your feelings, going to a place of anger and using that to “put them in their place” or “get revenge” feels REALLY good – at the time…

Believe me, I know. Anger used to be my go-to emotion for getting through tough times. I’d get pissed off at the situation or the people I perceived to be at fault and use that to find a solution, stop crying, get off the floor, walk away, etc.

But here’s the thing about anger – it feels great and powerful in the short-term, but in the long-term, it’s damaging. It damages relationships with others, your own sense of peace and wellbeing. Anger sabotages your spiritual connection and puts a wall between you and the love and abundance the Universe has for you.

It’s taken many years, and I can’t say I don’t still get angry sometimes, but I’ve learned that anger is NOT true empowerment. True empowerment comes from faith.

Faith in knowing that the Universe has your back. Faith in yourself to follow the path laid out for you. Faith that others are not out to get you. Faith gives you a strong, stable foundation from which anything is possible. Faith is not fragile or short lived the anger is. Faith is a steady, warm center which provides strength and peace.

That, my friends, is true empowerment.

I encourage you, the next time you feel yourself heading to a place of anger, to try faith instead. Release your anger and ask the Universe to guide you through the situation. Don’t send that email or speak those words until you can do so from a place of solid strength inside yourself, knowing that you’re leaning on faith to get you through. Chances are you’ll feel greater inner peace and the situation will be resolved much more easily and painlessly than you anticipate.
