10 Songs to Empower Your Day

(Last Updated On: January 17, 2019)

Music is a powerful way to set the mood for any event. Always has been. That’s why DJs are always in demand.

But music can also set the tone for your day – or turn your mood around. Because the fact is as awesome as meditation is, sometimes it just isn’t enough.

Meditation will help center you and ground you. But it won’t necessarily lift you up when you’re feeling sad or give you the instant sense of empowerment that the right song will.

When I’m feeling like I need to be understood, or need to stand solid in my personal power, I’ve got some songs I go to every time. Plus, some new ones I just discovered.

Next time you’re feeling like you need to dig deep to locate your empowered self, give tunes from my personal empowerment playlist a try!

For Me This Time – Analog Heart

This is one of those “recently discovered” songs I mentioned. Full discloser, a friend of mine sings back up for this woman when she’s not performing solo. Honestly, with this one, it’s not the music itself of the words that get me, it’s the video.

Girl on Fire – Alicia Keys

Honestly, I don’t know what my life would be without this song. When I’m feeling empowered, it reaffirms everything. When I’m not, I’ll “sing” it at the top of my lungs complete with hand gestures and big arm movements. And yeah, it does help. Stop laughing and try it! You’ll see!

Edge of Glory – Lady Gaga

It’s really tough to pick just one Lady Gaga song. Almost everything of hers makes me feel powerful. Edge of Glory is another one I “sing” and gesture with. Why? It basically commands I sit up and own my life. Born this Way does the same thing.

Roar – Katy Perry

I’ve a little bit of a girl crush on Katy Perry since before she kissed a girl and liked it. But Roar is a whole other level of love. This song was personal anthem for a good year+ of my life. It got me through some really tough times.

Might Not Like Me – Brynn Elliott

I remember the first time I heard this song in the car. It was brand new, yet my soul seemed to know the words. It was EVERYTHING I’d ever wanted to say to every man I’d ever been in a relationship with. A very polite, yet honest F-you. And what woman doesn’t need that sometimes!

High Hopes – Panic! At the Disco

Again, the Universe seemed to know I needed this one. The first time I heard it, I was feeling discouraged…but not for long! Now, it’s my go-to song when I’m feeling like things aren’t working out like I’d planned.

Where My Heart Will Take Me – Russell Watson

Okay, full disclosure on this one too. First, it’s the theme song from Star Trek: Enterprise (yes, I’m a total Trekkie – deal with it!) Second, it’s actually a cover of Rod Stewart’s Faith of the Heart. None of that really matters though. It’s seriously uplifting!

Fight Song – Rachel Platten

Feeling done in? Like you have nothing left to give or you’ve been taken advantage of one too many times? You need this song! Helps me dig deep every single time I hear it – even if I didn’t know I needed to!

Stronger – Kelly Clarkson

The name says it all with this one. It does make you feel stronger, more powerful. Anytime you feel like you need to prepare to take on the world, put this song on.

Feel Like a Woman – Shania Twain

What I love most about this song is that it encourages women to embrace every aspect of themselves. Too often there’s a subtle undercurrent of “be a lady” or “don’t make waves” in our society. But the truth is, women are powerful, smart, sexy, and capable of anything they set their minds to. For those moments you forget, push play!
