But some people really can’t sit still long enough to try meditation in the way most people think of it. In some cases, conditions like ADHD or Autism can contribute to this.

Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore.
Adult coloring books have been popular for a while. If you haven’t tried it, I suggest checking out mandala coloring books by Angie Grace.
They really help you get absorbed in the color. You’ll be amazed how quickly you find yourself reaching a meditative state – without even trying!
I was introduced to Zentangle a few years ago. If you’ve never tried it, it’s sort of like guided doodling.
In many areas of the US, there are classes where an instructor will lead you through creating a “tangle.” If you’re not in one of those, their website will also walk you through the process.
Make a Mandala
The word mandala comes from Sanskirt and refers to a feeling of wholeness.
In Buddhism, mandalas represent the ideal form of the Universe and Buddhist monks view the act of creating a mandala as representing the transformation from a reality of suffering to one of enlightenment.
They’re very detailed and take time to make correctly. If you’re crafty and like using a ruler, making a mandala could be a perfect meditation for you. Here’s how.
Make a Mala
For those familiar with the Catholic tradition of saying a rosary, the concept of making a mala is similar.
Malas are 108 beads plus a “focus” bead in the middle.
As you string the beads, you repeat a pre-decided mantra. It takes longer than you think and requires a bit of focus, which makes it an ideal active meditation technique.

Yarn and needle work are amazing ways to meditate. If you’ve never done crafts like this before and would like to, check for classes in your local area.
These activities work as a meditation technique because the actions are repetitive and require your focus, which calms your mind and eases you into a meditative state with you realizing it.
There a LOT of other options for active meditation like walking, gardening, etc. Share your ideas!
