5 Small Steps You Can Take to Start Transforming Your Life Today

(Last Updated On: April 11, 2019)

Do you feel like you’re living your best life? My guess is that if you’re reading this there’s something you want to change.

The beginning of any change is desire. You have to WANT to change before you can take any steps to do so.

Once you have the desire to change, it’s likely you’ll feel a bit lost about where to begin.

The truth is, it doesn’t matter what you want to change – at least at first. You don’t even have to know the specifics of what you want to change to get started.

I know, that may sound a bit weird. “How can you change if you don’t know what you’re trying to change?” Right?

You CAN!

It starts with five small steps. Small steps taken with intention lead to big changes.

Step 1 – Make a Vision Board

Many people are familiar with using vision boards as a way to hone in on specific goals or desires, but you can also use them to create positive change without a specific goal.

First, gather up a bunch of magazines that you like to look through. Ask local hair stylists, doctors, etc. if you can have theirs before the pitch them.

Flip through the magazines and cut out any words and pictures that speak to you. Don’t judge them or try to understand how they fit together. Just cut them out.

Then, grab some poster board or whatever you want to use to mount the stuff you cut out and some glue or tape.

Dry lay out your words and pictures first.

As you go through them and move them around to find the best place to mount them, focus on how each one makes you feel. You will start to get a sense of which ones you should keep and which you should save for another time.

Now, put it all together and put your vision board somewhere you can see it.

Step 2 – Journal It

It may come as a bit of a surprise to you since I’m an author, but I always found journaling tedious and annoying.

I finally figured out that it was because it lacked structure. It kind of felt pointless.

So, for those who need it, here’s some structure for journaling about transforming your life.

Each day before you go to bed write down the following:

  • 5 things you’re grateful for
  • 5 things that excite you
  • 5 things you wish were different in the world
  • 5 things ways you love to contribute

Over time, you’ll see patterns. Those patterns will be clues to what you want to change, and how to do it.

Step 3 – Try Something New

Look at the activities, classes, groups, etc. in your area. Find at least one that interests you, even a little bit, and do it.

Maybe you’ll discover it’s not your thing.

Or maybe you’ll find something you really love.

Either way, you’ve taken action towards doing something differently with your life and that is a positive step.

Try as many things as you feel you can with time and financial resources. It’s all data and it’s all helping you make positive change in your life.

Step 4 – Write a Mantra/Affirmation

Mantras and affirmations actually help rewire your brain to receive the changes you’re trying to create in your life.

If you have specific goal, great! You can write a mantra for that.

But if you don’t that’s okay. Write a more general one. For example, “I am worthy of living my best life” or “I welcome positive change into my life.”

Step 5 – Get Support

Change doesn’t happen in a vacuum and none of us can do it alone. Find somewhere you can get support.

Maybe you hire a coach.
Maybe you look for a therapist.
Maybe you sign up for a self-directed program.
Maybe you join a support group.
Maybe you reach out to family and friends.

Any and all of those, alone or in combination, are great ways to get the support you need during your growth process.

Transforming your life is possible! Start today and see how far you’ve come in a month, six months, a year.
